Dynamic Community Planning for Future Investment

In addition to strong trades and manufacturing-related investment, Lewiston is focused on downtown revitalization. Lewiston has developed two key plans that help outline the path forward - and provide investors and developers with the necessary information to join us in making it happen.

Riverfront Island Master Plan

This plan envisions a revitalized historic mill district with new housing, open space, and commercial uses, and a destination that celebrates the Androscoggin River and Lewiston’s historic assets. The plan includes 5 key initiatives: riverwalk & downtown connections; Island Point redevelopment; urban infill and redevelopment; Simard-Payne Park revitalization; and canal revitalization.

Growing Our
Tree Streets Transformation Plan:

Lewiston became the smallest city ever chosen to receive over $30 million in federal Choice Neighborhoods Initiative funding. The Growing Our Tree Streets Transformation Plan, created by residents, City of Lewiston staff, and partners, is the foundation for this work.

Choice funding kicked off this 25-year plan’s implementation, which is increasing Lewiston’s housing stock downtown, supporting job training and career planning efforts, increasing access to child care and health care, improving youth education opportunities and outcomes, increasing access to nutritious and affordable food, creating fun and safe places to play and gather, and improving neighborhood safety.
